What is the ASUS Steam Link and how does it work?

The ASUS Steam Link is a device designed to stream games from your PC to your TV. It utilizes your home network to relay the game's video and input data, allowing you to play PC games on a larger screen while using a controller. By connecting to your Steam account, it seamlessly integrates with the Steam library and the Steam Big Picture mode. It's especially beneficial for those who prefer a console-like experience for their PC games in their living room setting.

What types of devices can I connect with the ASUS Steam Link?

You can connect the ASUS Steam Link to a variety of devices including TVs, monitors, and sound systems. Its compatibility with HDMI means that you can easily plug it into any standard television or high-definition monitor. Additionally, it works with a wide range of game controllers, making it versatile for different gaming preferences. Consider using Steam Link for multiplayer gaming sessions with friends and family using multiple controllers.

Is the ASUS Steam Link compatible with all PC games?

While the ASUS Steam Link supports a vast majority of PC games available on Steam, performance can vary depending on the games' system requirements. Most popular titles optimize well for streaming, but some demanding games may require higher specs to ensure a smooth gaming experience. For best results, select games that offer controller support and are designed for optimal performance over streaming.

What internet speed do I need for the best experience with ASUS Steam Link?

For an optimal experience using the ASUS Steam Link, a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps is recommended, with higher speeds offering better performance. A wired Ethernet connection is ideal, as it provides reduced latency and more stability compared to Wi-Fi. This is particularly important for fast-paced games where lag can affect gameplay. Boosting your internet speed will ensure that you can enjoy gaming sessions without interruptions.

Can I use the ASUS Steam Link without my PC?

No, the ASUS Steam Link requires a computer running Steam to stream games as it does not have the capability to play games independently. It acts as an interface for your PC to sit in another room and play on the TV. However, the technology allows you to use it for legitimate purposes, such as running Steam-based applications or even desktop sharing for presentations while relaxing at home.

How do I set up the ASUS Steam Link?

Setting up the ASUS Steam Link is a straightforward process. Begin by connecting the device to your television and powering it on. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your Wi-Fi network and link to your Steam account on your PC. Once connected, you can adjust the video settings for resolution and streaming quality to suit your preferences. This setup generally takes less than 15 minutes, making it a convenient solution for game streaming.

What are the benefits of using the ASUS Steam Link compared to other streaming devices?

The ASUS Steam Link specializes in PC game streaming, distinguishing it from general streaming devices. Its key benefits include lower latency due to localized networking, extensive compatibility with Steam's library, and the ability to use PC-grade controllers. This makes it an ideal choice for gamers who prioritize performance and quality over other media consumption purposes. If you frequently game on your PC, it is a practical solution for enjoying games on a larger screen.

Can I connect multiple Steam Links to different TVs?

Yes, you can connect multiple ASUS Steam Links to different TVs around your home. Each unit can stream from the same PC, which allows different users to enjoy gaming on separate screens simultaneously. This setup is particularly useful for households with multiple gamers, as everyone can play their preferred games in various rooms without needing to swap equipment regularly.

Does ASUS Steam Link support local multiplayer gaming?

Yes, the ASUS Steam Link supports local multiplayer gaming. It allows multiple controllers to be connected simultaneously, enabling friends and family to join you in gaming sessions.
