Metro 2033 is a post-apocalyptic science fiction novel set in Moscow in the year 2033, almost 20 years after a cataclysmic war. The remaining inhabitants of the city have sought shelter in the Moscow metro, where they face danger from radiation, mutants, and other terrifying creatures. The story follows Artyom, a young orphan who must venture into the dangerous tunnels and make his way to the center of the metro to seek help. Along the way, he encounters various factions, religious fanatics, and individuals doing whatever it takes to survive. The author, Dmitry Glukhovsky, paints a bleak and disturbing picture of a society struggling to survive in the face of Constant threats. The book is filled with tension and maintains a feeling of hopelessness throughout. The characters are well-written and believable, and the author effectively conveys their motivations and emotions. The plot is a slow burner, with many unresolved sidetracks, which keeps the reader guessing until the very end. The only negative aspect mentioned in the review is the editing and language of the UK edition, with some issues in translation and the presence of typos and missing words. However, this is a minor complaint compared to the overall quality of the book.
